Interfax-Religion: "Relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and Holy Mount Athos were tense throughout the last century, primarily because of the ambiguous policy of the Greek government and the Patriarchate of Constantinople.

This conclusion was made at the international theological conference on Russia – Athos: A Thousand Years of Spiritual Unity by Metropolitan Juvenaly of Krutitsy and Kolomna in his paper devoted to relations between the Russian Church and Athos in the 20th century. "
