A Latvian news agency—LETA—unofficialy reports that Aleksandr Kazakov—a Russian fighting for the rights of Russian-language schools in Latvia—has been declared persona non grata. This despite the fact that he was born and spent all of his life in Latvia. (For those who may not know, Latvia was a former Soviet Republic and is now one of the newest democratic members of the EU.) In the meantime, as the rights of Russians are being trampled upon within the EU and Brussels looks the other way—the EU dœs have the time to interest itself in the affairs of Belarus. Hypocritical. Latvia is not Russia, and never was. Never should have been part of the CCCP either ... as you probably well know.

I am curious, isn't RUSSIAN the official language already in Russia? Isn't there resentment among Russian government and agencies against various ethnic groups within Russia - who seek to promote their original tongues? Don't deny it, we both know this exists and is happening in post-CCCP Russia.

Why should Russians expect anything different from a sovereign nation? Even more puzzling - why would Russians declare such things as RACIST (as I have read in Russian newspapers)? Given what you write here, I am sure you have read these same newspapers ... and seem to believe that same nonsense.

Are these Baltic nations being Nationalist? Certainly. Ethnocentric? - absolutely. But last time I checked, Russian was not a RACE and Baltic people are just as white as any Russian.

These attempts by Russia to "protect" ethnic Russians from "discrimination" in other free and sovereign nations ... is a very dangerous path, reminiscent of the early days of Nazi Germany. The facts are, the Russian diaspora is spread rather far (as the old CCCP leaders wanted it) and now these ethnic Russians will need to learn languages other than Russian.
